How To Update the Firmware on your Xbox One Controllers & Headset

How To  Update the Firmware on your Xbox One Controllers & Headset

The majority of Xbox One owners do not know that they will have to update the firmware on the controllers and headset separately from the console itself. Moreover, when your Xbox One console is updated, the controllers and headset do not update automatically. As a result, you will need to update their firmware separately. Be aware though that the updates, which refer to the controllers and the headset, are not actively advertised by the Xbox One, even if they are available, so you will have to check manually for available updates. In this guide we will show you how you can possibly update the firmware on your Xbox One controllers and headset.
Before we begin with the operation, you should be aware of a few prerequisites, in order to complete the update successfully.
  • You should have all your Xbox controllers available next to your console, because you will have to update all of them. With this way you will make sure that every controller works properly, despite of their different firmware versions.
  • Plug your headset adapter in the bottom of your Xbox controller. In case you have more headsets, plug all of them in your controller.
  • Plug the USB cable in the back of your Xbox One console. This cable will be used, so that you will connect every Xbox controller. Note that you cannot update the firmware without using this USB cable. In case you do not find a USB cable in the Xbox One package, you could use a USB cable from any smartphone, except iPhone. Fortunately, the Xbox One uses the same USB cables with most of smartphones, which use them to recharge or connect to a computer.
  • Your Xbox console must be updated with the latest software version.
  • Finally, check if there is enough energy in your controller’s batteries, so that you could complete the update process. If the energy is not enough, you should replace your controller’s batteries before you start the operation.

  • After this action, the update process will start. Be aware that this procedure might take some time. You will be informed about the advance of the operation from a progress bar, shown on the screen. You will also notice that the Xbox logo on your controller will turn off. In this case you do not need to worry, because the reaction is normal during the operation.

  • Once you do it, this update process will start for one more time. It works exactly as the previous process, which i described earlier. Once again, you can choose, whether if you want to update another controller by pressing on Update another, or you finish the operation by pressing on Exit.
As you can see from this tutorial, updating your Xbox controllers and headset is a very easy operation. As for the firmware updates, you should be careful about any problems or bugs, which you might encounter, or about any kinds of improvements, provided for your controllers and headset, because Microsoft does not provide you with any release notes for them.
