PC dongle for Xbox One wireless controller arrives on October 20

PC dongle for Xbox One wireless controller arrives on October 20

The Xbox One controller has been supported in Windows since June 2014 but the support has only been a partial one so far. More specifically, users had to connect their controllers with a USB cable if they wanted them to work with their PCs which is not an ideal solution. Now, Microsoft has announced a new USB dongle that will connect your controllers wirelessly so you can put those 360 controllers to rest.
Early indications point towards Windows 10 being the only OS to support the Xbox Wireless adapter, perhaps so that Microsoft can also push the Xbox One – Windows 10 integration even further. After all, gamers will be able to play both Windows and Xbox titles on their PCs with the streaming features of the console and the Xbox app. And no, the new USB dongle will not work with 360 controllers. If you want to use both Xbox One and Xbox 360 wireless controllers then you will have to use both adapters too.
Microsoft warns that a “significant firmware update” may be required for the controller so be aware of that if you are on a metered internet connection. Still, it is great news for those who have been waiting for a wireless solution to Xbox One controllers and are willing to pay a little extra for the premium. Speaking of which, the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows will cost $25 and there is no pre-order option available.
