Microsoft releases Xbox Beta app for WIndows 10
A few days ago, Microsoft announced that it would allow for
more direct feedback from its Windows 10 and Xbox users, especially in
the development of the new Xbox app for the company’s latest OS. Today,
Microsoft released the Xbox Beta app into the Windows 10 Store so any
willing user can now test unreleased features and also report any issues
to the company so that they can fix them before the public release or
just improve upon them based on the user feedback.
Most of the features here are vital to the experience that Microsoft has been promoting thus far in its continuing quest to turn the Windows 10 OS into an integrated ecosystem. For example, the beta version supports real-time friends list presence and activity feed updates, which is a fancy way of saying you will be able to instantly see your friends logging in and out of the game and also whether the multiplayer games they are currently engaged in can be joined or not.
Another example is the ability to add text entries to your console
via your Windows 10 device. Note that this feature means that you will
be able to input text in search boxes and a few other areas but it does
not mean you will be getting full support for your keyboard and mouse
just yet. Finally, the more competitive gamers will appreciate the game
progress comparison feature where you can finally prove to your friend
that you have shot more pigeons in GTA IV than he ever did without even
leaving the house.
Of course, this is hardly a case of Microsoft looking out for its users with altruistic motives. The company can simultaneously gain some good publicity for allowing its members to be more involved in the program and also recruit a fair few interested users who will be willing to test the app and report any bugs just like that. The app is available on the Windows 10 Store and it contains most of the features that we talked about before.
