How To Perform the Initial Setup of your Xbox One

Finally the time has come for you to set up your brand new Xbox One. According to your experience with other gaming consoles, you expect that the setup operation will not last more than a few minutes. Unfortunately, you are wrong. The first setup process of your Xbox One console will rather be complex and time-consuming. Therefore, you should be careful in order to complete the operation successfully. For this reason, i decided to write this guide, so that i could help you to configure your Xbox One console.
Before you start setting up your Xbox One console, you should check if you meet the following requirements:

• Unbox your Xbox and make sure that all of its accessories are available for you.
• You will need to use the Quick Setup Guide, so you should find it.
• You should have an available Internet connection. If the connection is wired, make sure that you have a network cable, so that you can connect your Xbox with your router.
• Search for the batteries of your Xbox controller.
• Go in a quiet room, where you could easily be located from the Kinect.
• You should have an active Microsoft account and you also remember its password. In case you have activated the two-step verification, you will have to enter a verification code too.
• In case you prefer to type faster, connect your gaming console with a USB keyboard.
• Finally, turn on the speakers or the TV, in which you will connect your Xbox One and turn up the volume.

If you meet all these requirements, you will be ready to begin the setup operation.
Connect all Cables

• First of all, you need to read the Quick Setup Guide, so that you will be able to set up your Xbox One console smoothly, without encountering any kinds of errors. Next, connect all the cables, the controller and the headphones to your gaming console, as shown in the Quick Setup Guide.
• Then add the batteries in the Xbox controller and check for one more time, if all the requirements i mentioned above are met. If everything’s ok, launch your Xbox One.

Turn On the Xbox One and Connect it to Internet

• Push the power buttons on your Xbox console and your Xbox controller. Once the operating systems is loading, you will be asked to press the A ( Select ) button on the controller.
• Then you will be asked to decide the language that you are going to use. Find the desired language and press the A button.

• In the next step, you will have to determine your location. Unfortunately, the displaying list does not include many countries. If you do not find your country in the list, you could just select the closest country to yours.
• Now you will connect your Xbox console to the Internet. The operating system will ask you to identify your network connections. If you want to use a wired network connection, plug the network cable in your console and your router. Then, select  Use wired connection.
• If you want to connect your Xbox to a wireless network, choose the desired network, shown in the list of the available networks. After this, you will asked to enter the password of the network that you chose. Type it in the corresponding field by using they keys, shown on the screen, or by using the USB keyboard you may have connected to the Xbox. Then press Enter on your controller.

• When your Xbox connects to Internet successfully, press Continue.

Update your Xbox One

• Once your Xbox One is connected to the Internet, it will start searching for updates. It will inform you about the amount of data you will need to download and then you will be asked to confirm this action. Be aware that you cannot continue the setup process, without updating your gaming console. Select the Start update option. Now you will have to wait until the update process is finished. A progress bar will display, informing you about the advance of this process.

• When the update process is done, your Xbox One will automatically restart. Once again, a progress bar will display to inform you, because the restart will take some time to complete. When the console has finally updated, you will notice the big Xbox logo on your screen. This means that you are moving on to the next step of the setup.

Set up Kinect

• In this step, Xbox will firstly ask you to select a time zone. Choose one of the available time zones, which is in the drop-down list. It is also recommended to chech the Automatically adjust for daylight saving box. Then press Next. 

• After this, you will be asked to set up the Kinect. This step is very important, so you should be very careful. Press Begin sensor setup.

• Sit in front of the Kinect and confirm that it can see you. To do this, select the Yes, Kinect can see me option. Note that the image will be displayed from the infrared sensor of Kinect.

• In order to ensure that the voice commands and the chat will work properly, you will have to check your audio. Turn up your speakers or the volume on the TV, which is connected to your Xbox One. Assuming that you already are in a quiet room, proceed to the audio test by pressing Start audio check.

• At this point, stay as quiet as you can, because Kinect will check for background noises. Then it will check the speaker volume. Make sure that you have turned up the volume very loud. Do not worry if you hear some sounds, played from Kinect.
• Then the Xbox One will calibrate your microphone. Be quiet and keep the volume up. When the balibration ends, Kinect will inform you that everything sounds pretty well.

• Press Next and Kinect will let you know that the setup is good.

• Select Next to continue the setup operation.

Select the Xbox One Startup Mode

• This is the easiest step of the setup. Moreover, you will determine the way your Xbox One will start.
• To do it, press Next.

• You will have to choose between the following two options:

1. Energy saving: If you select this option, your Xbox One will completely turn off, when you do not use it. As a result, your console will consume very little power. Be aware though that your Xbox will take some time to start. Finally, you will be notified with the latest updates, available for your gaming console, before you start using it.
2. Instant On: If you select this option, your console will be in a low-powered state, when you do not use it. This feature requires a lot of energy. Unlikely to the previous option, your Xbox console will automatically installs available updates in the background, when you are not using it. You will also be able to start your Xbox by a simple voice command, or by sitting in front of it. This feature is very awesome but unfortunately, requires a great amount of power.

• Select one of the options i mentioned above and press Next.

Sign in and Personalize your Xbox One
The last step of the setup operation requires you to sign in your Xbox One with your Microsoft account and personalize the color of your console’s interface.

• First of all, you will be informed that you will sign in with your Microsoft account. To do this, press Next. 

• In the next screen you will get information about how you will start the sign in process, from the Home dashboard. Press Next.

• The Home dashboard will show up. Select the Sign in button, which is on the upper left corner of the screen.

• Choose how you want to sign in as. Press Add New from the bottom left corner of the screen, so that you can enter the details of Your Microsoft account.

• You will first have to type the email account of your Microsoft account. Once you do it, press the Enter button on your controller.

• Then you need to enter the password for your Microsoft account. Type it and press Enter again.
• In case you have activated the two-step verification in your account, you will be asked to enter the verification code from your smartphone. Type it and press Enter.
• In the next screen you will get detailed information about the default privacy settings, which are configured on your Xbox One. You can adjust those settings after the initial setup. Read the info and press Next.

• After this, you will have to select the displaying color of your gaming console’s interface. Choose the desired color and press Next.

• Next, the operating system will show you how you will look on Xbox. In other words, you will be shown the gamerpic, associated with your account. Press Next to continue.

• You will be asked, whether if you want Xbox to remember your password or not. Select the desired option.

• Then you will be asked, whether if you prefer to sign in faster with Kinect. You can sign in faster by using Kinect, because of its ability to recognize you everytime you sit in front of the console. Therefore, you will sign in without even touching your controller. If you prefer this way select Sign me in with Kinect. Otherwise, select Sign in manually. 

• In case you chose to sign in with Kinect, sit in front of it and confirm that everything works properly. You can do this, by either raising your hand over your head, or by pressing That is me from the bottom left corner of the screen.
• Finally, Xbox One will ask you to go Home, in order to complete the setup process. Press the Xbox logo on your controller to start using your gaming console.

As you notice from this tutorial, the setup process of your Xbox One can become very lengthy. In addition, if you have not prepared everything perfectly, you may fail to configure your console. Therefore, follow this guide to complete the setup successfully.p
