How To: Clear your Skype and Facebook message history
Although having your message history available is very nice
most of the time, you might be concerned about your privacy. A simple
solution is to delete everything in your Skype and Facebook messaging
history following these very simple steps. Keep in mind that these
processes are irreversible.
Skype
1. Go to Tools>Options
2. Go to the IM & SMS tab
3. On the IM Settings menu click on “Show advanced options”
4. Click on “Clear history” and that’s it!
If you want to Skype to stop storing your messages you will have to change the “Keep history for” options. You can set it to only store messages for a couple of days to a couple of weeks or not at all. Remember to click on Save before you close the Options window.
Facebook
Deleting your message history on Facebook is a bit trickier. There are two ways to do this, manually and via an extension.
To do it manually, log in your Facebook account and go to your messages. Click on any friend conversation and you will notice an Actions menu in the top right corner. Now you have two options, either deleting the whole conversation or deleting individual messages one by one. Although these processes offer great control over what you delete, they will take a lot of time.
If you want to do it faster, you can install an extension for Chrome
or Firefox that will let you delete all of your history automatically.
Chrome: Facebook - Delete All Messages
Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/facebook-delete-all-message/
When you have installed the extension in either of your browser, you will need to visit your inbox in Facebook. Then, simply click on the extension and it will ask for your permission to start the deletion process.
